Last Saturday May 22, 2009 I had lunch with the Kabataan gang. In a perfect world I would have attended a press conference at 9am. Seeing as how I dislike my job sufficed to say Utopia hasn’t arrived yet. The press conference was with Kabataan Partylist solon, Raymond “Mong” Palatino. Thankfully Par, Sheena, Nissa and Pablo was their. Otherwise the seriously dramatic arrival could have approached an infinite singularity point. Grabbing the first broadsheet I could find, I read the papers on pretty much anything interesting. Scanning the damn thing I found nothing interesting till the bell rang. Lunch was okay, but still my gastronomic appetite could not have been satiated. After passover I found myself asking the lawmaker blogger one question. The future of parliamentary struggle is dependent upon our ability to unite the middle forces who though limited in their ability can still strengthen the future of our electoral process. Mong replied(Shit I should have brought a pen),paraphrased In order to truly bring about change we have to educate them on the reasons why their views are constricted. Their is this conscious and deliberate effort of the ruling classed to muscle out the legal battle for National Democracy. That this powerful effort by the local ruling system is restricting the capabilities of the both the national democratic struggle and the moderates alike. For the moderate’s acceptance that their struggles are nothing more than mere reformism. Easily dismissed by the inherently slow legal system and the dangerous invisible elements of power.
Their may be no such thing as a free lunch but since the Congressman was their what the hell. Hey, one of the reasons why we elect people to Congress is to get our piece of the pie. Which makes me laugh every time a person talks about how we’re just being used to gain power. Politics is about getting your share of the cake and getting to eat it too. Sure not everyone might be equal but at least you have the right to choose your masters. More than I can say for the stuck landless farmers who till the soil and hardly get shit.
